Eligibility
- Only graduate students presenting research at conferences are eligible.
- Students requesting funding must be enrolled, fee-paying students.
- Students receiving Student Government Association funding for the same conference or university staff using tuition waivers are not eligible. Students receiving financial support from their department may be eligible for funding, but cannot request funding for line items that their department has committed to paying for.
Funding Amounts
- Students are eligible for a maximum of $1,000 per student per year (June 1 – May 31).
At-large students (students not a member of a registered GSO) are eligible for up to $350 for domestic travel and international travel within North America and $450 for international travel outside of North America per conference, capped at $600 per year.
Active members of a registered GSO are eligible for up to $600 for domestic travel and international travel within North America and $700 for international travel outside of North America per conference.
Regardless of membership status, graduate students may only receive two travel grants per year.
Application Periods:
- June 1 – December 31 travel: Apply starting April 1, submit at least 4 weeks before the conference date.
- January 1 – May 31 travel: Apply starting November 1, submit at least 4 weeks before the conference date.
- Example: For a conference on November 1, apply between April 1 and October 1.
Application Requirements:
- Submit proof of acceptance to present at the conference.
- Confirm organization membership in Niner Engage to qualify for higher funding.
Applications without confirmation will be denied or funded at the at-large level.
Additional Rules:
- Travel funding is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- There is a waitlist available if funding runs out.
- There will be no retroactive funding for past conferences.
- Funding is specific to the applied conference and the applied student. Funds are non-transferable.
- A Travel Settlement form and receipts must be submitted within 2 weeks of return for reimbursement, or funding is forfeited.
